George Mason Hires New Women's Coach

George Mason University has hired former Radford coach Jeri Porter as its seventh women's basketball coach.

George Mason officials announced the hiring Wednesday, saying Porter has a reputation as a solid recruiter and coach with academic priorities for her players.

Porter coached Radford to two straight Big South championship games the past two seasons. The Highlanders received an automatic bid to the WNIT tournament this year, their first postseason berth since 1996.

Porter coached for six seasons at Radford after coaching four seasons at North Alabama.

The Capital Heights, Maryland native was previously a player and assistant coach at Liberty University. Liberty won the Big South Conference Championship in her last two years as an assistant.
