The Red Pride went farther in the playoffs than any of our area teams last season, losing in the state semifinals to eventual 2-A champion Giles. However, in typical Riverheads fashion, the Gladiators coaches and players have already forgotten the accomplishments of last season and are looking to use their speed overwhelm opponents this season.
"We have some quality kids back," said head coach Robert Casto. "We certainly lost some good players, but that's part of high school football. That's the fun part of the whole thing is rebuilding the thing and putting the pieces of the puzzle back together. We have a group of kids that it's their turn to step up and I'm sure they will. We're not quite as big as what we have been in the past, but we are fast and we're gonna utilize the things that we do well. We're Riverheads, and we line up in a certain offense and we're gonna run the football. That's what we do. Whether we throw the football a little more or not, we'll see what happens."
