The grey skies matched the mood at Turner Ashby High School Thursday afternoon, where the football team returned to practice, 24 hours after learning of the death of teammate, Matt Privott.
Privott's body was found at his home Wednesday afternoon. The Rockingham County Sheriff's Department says foul play is not suspected in his death.
Athletic director John Woodrum says players met with counselors, before returning to practice Thursday. Woodrum and head football coach Charlie Newman both declined invitations to speak on camera, saying it was just too soon.
In a phone conversation Thursday morning, Newman talked about Privott's tenacity on the field and his smile off of it.
Privott's teammates and fellow students are paying tribute online. As of Thursday afternoon, three Facebook groups had been formed to remember the junior.
Fellow TA student Gabe Steelman writes, "Matt always made me laugh, no matter what was going on. He always gave comedic relief to our youth group."
Dustin Harris of Charlottesville says, "Matt was someone who always had a smile on his face and he was the one who worked as hard as he could."
