Spotswood comes into this season with even higher hopes after earning a spot in the playoffs in 2007.

Spotswood head coach Eric Phillips says, "We got a taste of it, so that was good for our school, good for our program. I think the success of last year is helping us into the early part of this season."

However, if another post-season is in sight, they'll have to do it without the one-two punch of running backs John Holts and Ricky Suggs, who combined for more than 2,500 yards a year ago.

"Two very good football players. They meant a lot to us last year, but this is high school football," says Phillips. "Your seniors graduate and you get a new crop of kids to work with, but if we do the things were capable of we'll be fine."

Spotswood and Harrisonburg open up with each other on August 23.
