Depth at wide receiver was already a concern for Virginia Tech, and that was before head coach Frank Beamer suspended one of his projected starters.
Beamer announced Monday that he was suspending redshirt sophomore Zach Luckett indefinitely, for a violation of team policy. Beamer would not comment further, but the Roanoke Times reports Luckett was arrested for DUI over the weekend.
Luckett, who has two career catches, was expected to be the Hokies' starter at flanker this season.
Tech is trying to find replacements for its top four receivers from 2007, all of whom were picked up by NFL teams. The Hokies lost another porjected starter, Brandon Dillard, when he ruptured an Achilles tendon last month.
Converted quarterback Ike Whitaker is now the only receiver on Tech's roster who has caught a pass in a college game.
The Hokies open their season on August 30 against East Carolina in Charlotte.
