Wilson Memorial finished last season at 5-5. It was the first time in more than 20 years the Hornets finished with a 500 record or above three years in a row.

Head coach Derek McDaniel says, "We weren't totally happy being 500 at the same time. We had some good things that ended up happening from our season last year. We got to play some younger kids at the end of the season. Our starting quarterback got five games under his belt, so there is some pluses to it also."

Quarterback Jake Bailey is now a sophomore. He will join a young Hornet team this season, which McDaniel says can't be all that bad.

"But at the same time you realize, next year and the year after, those guys will still be with you, and hopefully by game six when we start our district schedule, that those guys matured enough and be ready to go," says McDaniel.
