The University of Virginia has rescinded a ban on signs at its football games, calling the policy a distraction.

Athletic director Craig Littlepage says in a statement released Thursday that the struggling football team needs support and encouraged all the students to turn out for Saturday night's game against Maryland.

Virginia has been blown out in three of its four games this season.

The brief statement from the school gives no indication whether the content of signs and banners will be screened as fans enter Scott Stadium.
