The Chesterfield County Planning Commission has unanimously approved a $100 million sports complex and Olympic training center.
The complex, approved Tuesday, would be built on 50 acres in the Waterford Business Center at Powhite Parkway and state Route 288.
The project was spearheaded by SportsQuest, whose founder, Steve Burton, is a Chesterfield resident. Burton plans to fund a portion of the startup costs himself and hopes to break ground as soon as next month.
The first phase would include an ice rink, aquatics center, cycling center, sports medicine clinic, fitness center and family entertainment center. A 6,000-seat arena would be added later with a hotel, retail plaza, tennis facilities and a field house.
