Former R.E. Lee football star Dae'Quan Scott is getting a jumpstart on his college career.

For the past few weeks, Scott's been making the short drive from Staunton to Bridgeforth Stadium, where he's been working out with his soon-to-be James Madison teammates.

Scott was named the Group AA all-state utility player after his final season at Lee. He ran for 2,241 yards and threw for 703 more, and racked up a combined 38 touchdowns.

Scott has moved from quarterback to receiver for the Dukes' voluntary offseason workouts. And he admits that's just one of the adjustments he's had to make.

"Oh, it's way different out here. It's a different world out here," says Scott of the level of play. "I mean, everybody's just as fast as you. Just as strong, or even faster or even stronger. So, I mean, you've got to bring your best."

The voluntary workouts are organized by JMU's strength and conditioning staff. Head coach Mickey Matthews and his staff are not allowed to attend.
