Scotty McGee says he is on the road to recovery.

McGee has been forced to watch from the sideline as his teammates go through summer workouts. He is still recovering from the surgery he had on his left foot in late May.

"I'd rather be out there competing, getting better. But unfortunately I'm not," says McGee. "So I'll be out there behind the ball of everybody else. And I'll just have to get it in through the rest of the summer leading up to camp."

He recently began jogging lightly on the foot. He says the foot feels "pretty good," and coach Mickey Matthews says his star kick returner is progressing nicely.

"We did the surgery as quickly as we realized it was a problem, so he could have four or five weeks to prepare for the season," says Matthews. "And that plan is going well."

Matthews expects McGee to be back at full speed by mid-July. The Dukes are scheduled to report for preseason camp August 9 and begin practice the next day.
