The former attorney for Jeremy Mayfield says he has yet to be paid for defending the suspended NASCAR driver.
Bill Diehl is at Talladega Superspeedway for Sunday's race. He says Mayfield has been told he needs to settle his bill, and Diehl will take legal action to collect the money if necessary.
Mayfield parted ways last month with Diehl and has hired celebrity attorney Mark Geragos to represent him in his fight with NASCAR.
Mayfield was suspended in May for failing a random drug test. NASCAR says he tested positive for methamphetamines, and Mayfield has denied ever using the illegal drug.
