A pair of costly second half turnovers by Turner Ashby cleared the way for Harrisonburg to win its seventh straight district championship, third in the Massanutten District, with a 36-19 victory Friday night.

Harrisonburg's Michael Holmes ran for three scores, threw for one, and returned a kickoff for a touchdown. The junior also had a punt return touchdown called back because of a holding penalty.

His 82-yard kickoff return came with just two seconds left in the first half, and gave the Streaks a 15-12 lead at the break.

Holmes' 53-yard halfback pass to Troy Jones late in the third quarter moved the Streaks in front 22-19.

Turner Ashby forced the Streaks to punt on their next possession, but Harrisonburg regained possession after a muffed punt by the Knights' Robert Blackwell.

That led to Holmes' second touchdown run of the night.

His third came less than a minute later, from a yard out. It was set up by Ryan Fletcher's interception of Kyle Linn to the Turner Ashby one-yard line.

Harrisonburg improves to 9-1 with the win. The Streaks will get a bye in next week's first round of the Region III, Division 4 playoffs.

The loss drops the Knights to 8-2. They'll host a not-yet-determined opponent next week.
