The Washington Nationals say Jim Riggleman will be their manager in 2010.
Riggleman is getting the job on a permanent basis after being promoted from bench coach to interim manager in July, replacing fired skipper Manny Acta. The Nationals went 26-61 (a .299 winning percentage) under Acta in 2009, 33-42 (.440) under Riggleman.
The team was holding a news conference with Riggleman at Nationals Park on Thursday.
The Nationals are the fourth major league team Riggleman has managed, after the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners. He has a .444 winning percentage across 10 seasons.
His best year came with the 1998 Cubs, who were led by NL MVP Sammy Sosa's 66 homers and went 90-73 to make the playoffs as a wild card.
