Sean Casey and Placido Polanco hit R-B-I singles
in the bottom of the eighth to lead Detroit past Baltimore 5-to-4.
The game was tied 3-to-3 until Casey delivered as a
pinch-hitter, sending a sinking liner past the glove of shortstop
Miguel Tejada (teh-HAH'-dah). Polanco followed with his fourth hit
and second R-B-I of the night.
Craig Monroe hit a two-run homer as the Tigers sent the Orioles
to their third straight loss.
Tejada had two R-B-Is for the Birds.
Joel Zumaya (zoo-MY'-uh) blew a 3-to-2 lead in the seventh but
improved to 1-and-1, allowing one hit in two innings. Todd Jones
gave up a ninth-inning run en route to his ninth save.
The loss goes to 0-and-1 Danys Baez.
