Craig Monroe hit a tiebreaking homer in the sixth
inning to help lead the Detroit Tigers past the Baltimore Orioles
3-to-2. Monroe has two homers in two games after hitting only one
in his first 25 appearances.
Gary Sheffield provided the bulk of the offense, going 4-for-4
with a home run and an R-B-I single to help the Tigers earn their
first sweep of the year. They've won a season-high four straight
overall, while Baltimore has lost four in a row and nine of ten.
Nate Robertson gave up two runs and seven hits over six and
two-thirds innings while raising his record to 3-and-1.
Todd Jones worked a perfect ninth for his tenth save in 12
O's starter Steve Trachsel (TRAK'-suhl) gave up three runs and
eight hits over seven innings, falling to 1-and-3 with his third
loss in four starts.
