Bridgewater College releases statement after forfeiting three volleyball wins. It is below in it's entirety.
"Recently, a student-athlete on Bridgewater College’s volleyball team appeared in a video for the local hospital, speaking about her surgery and recovery at the hospital. The student-athlete received prior approval from the College to appear in the video, and she was not compensated in any way. The hospital in question is a nonprofit agency.
The NCAA ultimately concluded that the student-athlete’s appearance in the video was a violation of one of its bylaws, making her ineligible during the time the video aired. The student-athlete’s eligibilitywas immediately reinstated by the NCAA, and the College is forfeiting the three volleyball games it played during the week the video aired, against Guilford, Roanoke and Hollins.
The College takes full responsibility for this violation. The student-athlete exhibited due diligence in receiving approval from the College to give her testimonial. The College sincerely apologizes to the NCAA, the ODAC, and the volleyball team and its fans."
