Brie Moore: WHSV Student Athlete of the Week April 10

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) -- History tells us that there's a lot we can learn from our past mistakes to improve our future; something Waynesboro High School's point guard, Brie Moore, takes to heart.

"I like studying different players like Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson and those kind of people and learn about how basketball was played then and now," said Brie.

Brie's basketball history started when she was eight years old and she's improved a lot since then.

"She sets goals for herself and works really hard outside of practice and in the off-season, in the weight room, in the gym, in the classroom, in the library, what have you, to achieve those goals that she sets for herself," said Brian Lundstrom, Brie's basketball coach.

She has goals for next year. One thing she wants is to be an even better captain for the team.

"I've been trying more to be a vocal leader because not everyone can just look at someone and know how to do it. You have to be vocal sometimes so I've been working on that," said Brie.

Brie also knows the importance of history when it comes to the classroom. In fact, her favorite subject is history.

"I'd like to have a whole classroom of Bries. She is always prepared. She is inquisitive. She asks questions," said Preston Martin, Brie's history teacher.

Asking questions is how brie has achieved so much. She has put a lot of work to get her 4.2 GPA.

"I'm kind of hard of myself. I critique myself a lot. I try to tell myself that I know the information. I try to give myself a little boost of confidence before I take it because I put in a lot of hours studying," said Brie.

She will keep studying past basketball players as she hopes to go down in history as one of the best players at Waynesboro High School.

"I want my scoring averages to go up this year and maybe get Player of the Year around here. That's what my biggest hope would be," said Brie. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
