QUICKSBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Stonewall Jackson High School quarterback Daniel Buhl has made a habit of barreling his way through the defense and leading his generals into battle.
"If I can set the standard for effort and attitude and everything like that, then I'm confident that we'll be in good shape as a team and be able to achieve our goals," said Daniel
"He works the hardest out of anybody on the team. When it comes to on the field, he is encouraging, he gets the guys fired up, he wants them doing better, and he expects more of himself than most people would," said Patrick Smoot, Daniel's basketball and football coach.
Daniel doesn't just meet those expectations, he often exceeds them. On top of being a three-sport athlete at Stonewall, he ranks number one in his class academically, sporting at 4.3 GPA.
"Well academics is the foundation for our future education. there will be a day when I going to have to hang up sports and won't be able to do that anymore," said Daniel.
"He is definitely a role model for younger students and I think even students in his own class because they see how much hard work he puts in to both areas. Some people are sort of in awe of him that he's able to balance academics and athletics so successfully," said Aimee Miller, Daniel's economics teacher.
"It's through hard work and dedication, and he's done that in the classroom and on the field. He is the one that if I would want to point out and say this is what I want our athletes to look like, Daniel would be the perfect example of that," said Smoot.
