Harrisonburg, Va. - Any debate, as to who would start at Quarterback for the Dukes on Saturday against Georgia State was put to rest Monday.

Mickey Matthews, named Michael Birdsong his man under center. Birdsong, replaced starter Justin Thorpe in the 2nd Half of Saturday's 35-29 loss to Richmond.

Birdsong, started a comeback effort with the Dukes trailing by 19 with seven minutes remaining. The highlights included a 36 yard touchdown pass to DeAndre' Smith, and an eight yard touchdown scamper by Birdsong.

Matthews said beyond the performance, the reason for the change, also had to do with how well Birdsong has performed in practice.

Thorpe has been dealing with an injury on his throwing hand, allowing Birdsong to work more with the first string offense.

The Dukes host Georgia State at Bridgeforth Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 3:30 pm.
