BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater unleashed a potent offensive attack in the first half to take a 4-1 lead at the break and then held on down the stretch to defeat the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets 4-3 in ODAC men's soccer action.
The Eagles scored in the opening minute when Gerard Miniaci put a pass on the foot of Ryan Morgan and Morgan put the ball in the back of the net for a quick 1-0 BC lead.
Randolph-Macon tied the score in the sixth minute when Andrew Oakes got behind the Eagles defense and put a low shot just inside the far post past a diving Bridgewater goalie TJ Martin to even the score.
The Eagles then took charge with three unanswered goals.
BC regained the lead when Ryan Tavernaris put a perfect touch pass to Logan McGlynn for the goal and a 2-1 lead.
The Eagles made it 3-1 in the 35th minute when Adam Weisenborn played a long pass ahead to Sawyer Janes. Janes then played the ball across the box to Ben Lewis for an open shot and goal.
Bridgewater scored in the final minute of the half when Janes lofted a long throw-in into the box and Patrick Thornton finished the play with a goal for a 4-1 lead at the half.
The lead remained 4-1 until the visitors made it interesting down the stretch with two goals in the final 11 minutes.
Johnny Bustillo scored off a direct kick to make the score 4-2 and a goal by Caleb Hatcher made it a one-goal game with just under five minutes left.
The Eagles defense held steady the rest of the way to secure the 4-3 victory.
Bridgewater is now 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the ODAC while Randolph-Macon drops to 1-5-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
