RICHMOND, Va. -- East Rockingham managed just one field goal in the fourth quarter, but defense carried the Eagles to a 35-31 win over Altavista in the Group A Division 1 Girls State Championship Friday, clinching their second straight state title.

The Eagles survived a 7 minute and 18 second scoring drought in the third and fourth quarter, watching their 10 point lead shrink to 2 with just more than 2 minutes to play.

Sarah Cameron was the only player for either team to score in double figures. The East Rockingham senior totaled 13 points, including the final two points of the game from the free throw line, sealing another state title for East Rockingham. Cameron also added 10 rebounds.

Senior Megan Nicholson scored 8 points, followed closely by Jessica Lam, another senior, who scored 7.

East Rockingham finishes the season with a 29-1 record. They are now 59-2 in the past two seasons combined.

In three years as a school, the Eagles have made the trip to the state final four in each season, winning two straight state titles.
