Former JMU QB Michael Birdsong announced he's transferring to Marshall via Twitter on Saturday night.

Birdsong made the decision after visiting the school this weekend. He originally said he was going to take his time before choosing which school, deciding between Marshall and Old Dominion.

The selection comes nearly two weeks after Birdsong said he would be transferring, handing the starting quarterback spot to Vad Lee. Head coach Everett Withers had limited the quarterback's options, banning him from transferring to Old Dominion, Charlotte, Liberty and Appalachian State.

A panel of faculty heard an appeal by Birdsong to reverse the ban and ruled in favor of the Richmond-native, allowing him to consider all schools except Charlotte, which is on JMU's 2014 schedule.
