Bridgewater College head football coach Michael Clark announced the hiring of former professional football player Ike Charlton to the Eagles staff for the 2012 season. Charlton comes to the Eagles staff from the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) Intern program.

Charlton, who most recently played for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft. He played college football at Virginia Tech where he was a defensive back for the Hokies' 1999 Big East Championship winning squad. During his time in Blacksburg, Charlton played in three bowl games as a cornerback for the Hokies before declaring for the NFL draft after his junior season. Charlton was a two-time All-Big East selection.

"This is the third time we have participated in this program and I hope Ike can bring the same expertise we got from Larry Moore and Ben Taylor who came to BC after their professional careers had ended," said Clark. "In talking to Bud Foster the DC at Virginia Tech who coached and recruited Ike, he felt we would be getting someone who is willing to learn and contribute at the same time. We look forward to sharing the season with Ike and his family."

Following his college career, Charlton was the 52nd overall pick for the Seattle Seahawks in the 2000 draft. Charlton spent time with the the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots and Detroit Lions before moving to the CFL. Charlton played a significant portion of his career with the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Montreal Alouettes.

The Eagles report back to campus on August 11th to begin preparation for the 2012 campaign. Bridgewater opens the 2012 season on September 1 at St. Vincent.
