Fort Boys Fall In State Semifinals

The back-to-back defending state champion Brunswick Bulldogs started the game on a 23-2 run and proved to be too much for Fort Defiance as the Indians fell 56-29 in the Group AA Division 3 state semifinals Tuesday.

Fort Defiance was held scoreless through the first quarter, and did not get on the board until Brandon Crowe knocked down a jumper at the 5:05 mark of the second quarter.

The Indians, with just three field goals in the first half trailed 25-8 at the break, but held their own in the third quarter, tying the Bulldogs in the scoring column 14-14. Fort closed the gap to as close as 10 points in the third quarter, but Brunswick finished the game on a 28-11 run, ending Fort Defiance's season.

This was Fort Defiance's third trip to the state final four in program history and their first since the days of Dell Curry, when they made back-to-back trips to the final four, winning the state championship in 1980.

Fort Defiance was led in scoring by Trevor Lam with 9 points. The senior also led the team in rebounding with 6 boards. Adam Frazier chipped in 8 points for the Indians.

Brunswick was led in scoring and rebounds by senior Brandan Stith. Brandan, who has signed to play at East Carolina, had a game high 16 points and 15 rebounds.

B.J. Stith, Brandan's younger brother who has verbally committed to play for Tony Bennett at Virginia, added in 11 points and 6 rebounds. Stephen Vassor scored 12 points for the Bulldogs.
