RICHMOND, Va. -- Freshman Justin Kier's lay-up with 16.7 seconds left powered the Spotswood boys to a 70-69 win over Bruton in the Group AA Division 3 state semifinals Tuesday afternoon.

The freshman guard started the season on the junior varsity team but scored 5 fourth quarter points to help Spotswood cap off a 14 point comeback, earning a spot in Saturday's title game against the winner of the Brunswick-Fort Defiance game.

Tucker McCoy led the Blazers with 22 points, a game high. Hyrum Weiler chipped in 16 points as the only other Spotswood player in double figures.

All five starters for Bruton scored in double figures.

Spotswood did not lead until Justin Kier hit the second of two free throws with 1:27 left in the fourth quarter.

Bruton was held to just one field goal in the fourth quarter and led by as many as 11 in the period.

The Panthers shot 22-24 from the free throw line in the game.
