LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lynchburg's Luke Moore scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of action Saturday and the Hornets went on to blank the Bridgewater College Eagles, 4-0, in ODAC men's soccer action.
The outcome continued the Eagles late-season struggles as the loss was their fourth in a row, all against conference competition.
Bridgewater is now 9-7 overall and 5-5 in the ODAC. The Eagles will close out the regular season Wednesday when they host Shenandoah University on Senior Day.
Moore put the Hornets on the board just 3:10 into Saturday's game with an unassisted goal for a quick 1-0 lead.
Moore struck again at the 7:32 mark as he found the back of the net off an assist from Tim Clancy to make the score 2-0.
The Hornets added two more goals in the second half to close out the victory.
Tim Titus centered a pass from the right side to Michael Venegas who took the ball off his chest and then powered a shot past Bridgewater goalie Kevin Morris from 20 yards out for a 3-0 Lynchburg lead.
Trevor Davis scored the game's final goal off an assist from TJ Guerra, completing the Hornets 4-0 victory.
The Eagles nearly averted the shutout in the final minute, but a shot by Sawyer Janes hit the crossbar and bounced back into the field of play.
Shots were even at 13 apiece. The Hornets put nine shots on frame compared tp three by the Eagles. Lynchburg also held a slim 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Adam Weisenborn, Logan McGlynn and Gerard Miniaci put shots on goal for the Eagles.
Morris finished the contest with six saves and a pair of Lynchburg keepers combined for three saves.
