Injury-riddled Redskins sign TE Byrd, OL Compas

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- The injury-riddled Washington Redskins have
signed tight end Dominique Byrd and offensive lineman Jonathan
Compas.

Byrd has played in 15 games since being drafted in 2006. He opened this season with Seattle but was released after the first game. Compas appeared in two games with Tampa Bay in 2009. He spent this year's training camp with New England.

The two were signed to take the roster spots vacated when tight end Chris Cooley and running back Tim Hightower were placed on injured reserve. The Redskins have put three offensive players on IR in the last two weeks, and two other offensive players have significant injuries.

The Redskins also signed running back Tristan Davis to the practice squad. Guard John Malecki was cut from the practice squad.
