JMU Ladies Down Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior guard Tarik Hislop (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) scored 22 points, 18 of them in the second half, to lead James Madison (16-8, 10-2) to a 68-56 win at Old Dominion (16-8, 7-5) in Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball Tuesday evening at the Constant Convocation Center.

The Dukes remained in second place in the CAA, just ahead of Drexel (9-2), who was idle Tuesday night.

Hislop scored 12 points in a 14-5 run that gave the Dukes an insurmountable 63-51 lead with 2:28 remaining.

JMU out-rebounded the Monarchs 54-38, with sophomore forward Toia Giggetts (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) snaring a career-high 17 along with 10 points. The Dukes outscored ODU 34-26 in the paint and scored 20 points off turnovers.

JMU freshman guard Precious Hall (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay) scored 15 points and had a game-high four steals, and redshirt freshman guard Jazmon Gwathmey (Bealeton, Va./Liberty) added nine points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Kirby Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) finished with eight points and eight rebounds.

* Toia Giggetts' 17 rebounds were the most by a JMU player since Lauren Jimenez had 17 at Monmouth on Dec. 18, 2010.
* Tarik Hislop extended her school record of career starts to 127.
* HIslop also played her 128th consecutive game and took sole possession of that JMU record. She formerly shared the mark of 127 with Tamera Young ('08).
* Hislop had four assists to increase her career assist total to 352 and move into a tie for eighth place on JMU's all-time list. She's tied with Emily McCracken (352, '92)
* Kirby Burkholder made two 3-pointers to increase her career total to 157 and move from sixth to fifth place on JMU's career list. She passed Jody LeRose (156, '04) and is one away from fourth place, held by Sarah Williams (158, '10). is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion.
