JMU falls to Maryland, 52-7, in Withers' Debut

James Madison dropped its season opener, 52-7, to Maryland in Everett Withers' first game as the Dukes' head coach. Maryland quarterback C.J. Brown scored all three of the Terrapins' touchdowns in the first half, leading the Terps to a victory in their first game as a member of the Big Ten conference.

Vad Lee threw two interceptions in the loss, going 16-for-37, and 141 yards in his first game with the Dukes. Brown added a touchdown in the air while passing for 111 yards.

James Madison got on the board after Jimmy Moreland intercepted a pass from Maryland's back-up QB Caleb Rowe in the fourth quarter, returning the pick for 12 yards. John Miller ran a 1-yard touchdown to avoid the shutout.

JMU plays at Lehigh next week.
