WOODSTOCK, Va. (WHSV) -- Central High School's Jonathan Feaster uses laser focus to perform his best as a swimmer for the Falcons and it carries over into the classroom.
"I'm looking down at the pool. I'm in the zone. I'm not really thinking about anything else. I'm trying to block out all the other distractions," said Jonathan.
The distractions are everywhere, but when he hits the water, "You're in the water by yourself. You can't see anything around you. You're just in the zone, swimming."
His teammates notice him though as he leads by his example of hard work and dedication.
"They're a very strong group. They feed off of each other and Jon is the center of that group. When he speaks the kids listen. If someone needs attention or help he's the first one there to step up and answer the questions and be there through some of the difficult technical things," said Jonathan's swim coach.
Jonathan doesn't just swim hard, he also studies hard.
Maintaining a 4.2 GPA, Jonathan is an example in the classroom as well.
"In academics and sports, I usually go with the golden rule. If someone wants help, I want to help them just like I would want help with something," said Jonathan.
He plans to keep on learning as he hopes to go to Virginia Tech to study biology. Jonathan has proven that he can succeed at the next level by the focus he shows now.
"I think by being self motivated, self disciplined and eager to set high goals to achieve those things. He's able to get the grades and do all of those other things," said one of Jonathan's teachers.
