EMU was in complete control Wednesday night at home, rolling to an 8-0 win over Trinity (D.C.). The soccer women scored four times in each half and also broke a program record with 21 corner kicks in the game as they improved to 5-1.
Emma Beachy (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) started things off with a long shot at the 15:29 mark. Nora Osei (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) scored twice over the next ten minutes, getting an assist from Morgan Hill (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle) each time. Defender Erica Detweiler (Hickory, N.C./Fred T. Foard) nearly scored in the 33rd minute but settled for an assist when her shot rattled off the cross bar and Elisa Ott (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) fired in the rebound.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Kendall Moyer (Fincastle, Va./James River) sent in an unassisted goal. Moyer assisted Kristen Kirby (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) on her first career tally, then scored again with an assist from Ott. Sophie Smith (Monrovia, Md./Linganore) capped the scoring in the 74th minute with a long shot, after a nice pass from Jessika Coffey (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft).
Eastern Mennonite controlled shots by a 43-0 margin, and put 22 on goal. Their 21 corner kicks topped the previous program record of 18 which was set in 2008.
Becca Borg (Gig Harbor, Wash./Peninsula) spent the first half in goal to earn the win, with Rachel Klainer (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) tending the net in the second.
The Royals head to Lynchburg for an important ODAC game on Saturday, playing at Randolph College at 2:00pm. Both teams are 0-1 in conference play.
