In the top of the first, Roanoke put a pair of runners in scoring position on a pair of singles and a fielding error on the Eagles as the Maroons threatened to take the early lead. Starting pitcher Heather Jenkins worked her way out of the inning to keep the game scoreless, which would change in the bottom of the frame.

Junior Kasey Anderson bunted her way on base to open the inning before being moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Karie Burgess. Freshman Brooke Throckmorton saw eight pitches before drawing a one-out walk to put runners at first and second. Lamb then worked the count full before smoking a pitch over the right center field fence, scoring Anderson and Throckmorton in the process to build a 3-0 lead after an inning of play.

Jenkins put the Roanoke side away in order in the second while the Eagles added a single run in the bottom of the frame.

Senior Leigh Lam singled through the left side to open the inning before being sacrificed to second on a Jenkins bunt. Two batters later, Anderson singled through the left side to put runners on the corners before a Burgess single pushed home Lam to put the Eagles in front, 4-0.

Both teams went down without a run in the third but it was Bridgewater exploding again in the fourth to blow the game wide open.

The Eagles opened the inning with a foul out prior to senior Sarah Goodman reaching on a single through the right side to give Bridgewater a one-out base runner. Anderson reached on a fielding error to put runners at first and second, forcing a Roanoke pitching change. Burgess popped up for the second out of the inning as the Maroons looked to escape the inning unscathed. Throckmorton kept things going with a run-scoring single to center field to put the Eagles up by five runs. After watching the first pitch go by for a ball, Lamb belted her second homer of the day, this time a shot to left to put the Eagles up 8-0.

Roanoke put a run on the board in the top of the fifth to keep the game going, trimming the Bridgewater lead to 8-1 but it was as close as the Maroons would get as the Eagles picked up an 8-1 win to advance in the conference tournament.

Lamb's 3-for-4 game with six RBI paced a Bridgewater attack that pounded out 13 hits in the victory. Five Bridgewater players tallied multi-hit games in the win.

Jenkins picked up the win in the circle, allowing a single run on five hits in a complete-game effort.

Roanoke was led at the plate by a 1-for-3 effort from Rainey as five players registered a hit for the Maroons in the loss.

Kelly Higbie was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits across 3 and 1/3 innings of work.

Bridgewater advances in the tournament to play this evening in an elimination game at 5 p.m. against Shenandoah. The Eagles and Hornets split a twinbill at Bridgewater during the regular season. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
