Derek McDaniel is headed back to Waynesboro High School, this time as a football coach.
McDaniel has previously coached football at Wilson Memorial High School where the Green Hornets came to a share of their first district title since 1978 just last year.
Principal Tim Teachey, who hired McDaniel, is excited for the coach's return.
"I know how he interacts with his coaches. I know how much time he puts in to a program. And I know he's very clear on his expectations and models those expectations," says Teachey.
McDaniel is a graduate of Wilson Memorial but is looking forward to the challenge of rebuilding a once successful program.
"There's a lot of opportunity here. I cannot believe that a program that was once successful and I was a part of that program, that it can't be successful again. I refuse to believe that," says McDaniel.
Waynesboro is coming off a winless season, and hasn't won more than two games a season since 2004.
