BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Lynchburg College's Dessi Depuy scored with less than a minute left in the second overtime Saturday to lift the 11th-ranked Hornets to a 1-0 victory over the Bridgewater College Eagles.

Each team had several chances to score throughout the game, but the defenses and the keepers were up to challenge.

Lynchburg held a 19-12 edge in shots with nine on goal. The Hornets held a huge 13-2 advantage in corners, but each time the Eagles defense held strong.

The Hornets had three corners in the opening minutes but came away without a shot. BC's Krissy Snyder had the first good opportunity when she made a strong run down the right side but her shot rolled just wide of the far post. The Eagles had another opportunity moments later when Melanie Waters had an open look on goal, but Lynchburg keeper Audrey Moore made the save.

Bridgewater keeper Krista Kelly came up with a big save at the 22-minute mark when she was able to punch Kristen Melchiori 's high shot over the cross bar.

The teams continued the battle in the second half and the Eagles had two good opportunities in the final six minutes of regulation. Michelle Viegas missed just high on a shot from 15 yards out and Snyder's shot from the right side a minute later was stopped by Moore.

In the first overtime the Hornets put shots on goal by Angela Bosco and Dupuy, but each time Kelly was there for the save.

The Hornets had the first scoring chance in the second overtime when Dupuy hit the cross bar from 18 yards out.

The Eagles just missed the game-winner moments later when Anna Theisen's shot was deflected by the keeper and then bounced off the cross bar.

Lynchburg gained control in the final minute and Dupuy was able to possess a loose ball in the box and put her shot just out of Kelly's reach for the game-winner.

Kelly finished the contest with eight saves for the Eagles while Moore recorded five saves for the Hornets.

Lynchburg is now 11-0-2 overall and 5-0-2 in the ODAC. The Eagles drop to 8-4-1, 5-2-1 in the conference.
