No Shave May? Johnson Not Shaving Unitl Nats Start Hitting

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Davey Johnson says he's not going to shave until the Washington Nationals start hitting.

The Nationals manager apologized for his scraggly appearance before Friday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies, but he added: "I figured I couldn't get any uglier, so what the heck."

The Nationals are hitting .225, second worst in the majors. They are a popular favorite to make the World Series, but they just returned from a road trip that included a four-game losing streak, an injury to Bryce Harper from running into a wall, and a broken hand for Ryan Mattheus when he punched his locker after a rough outing.

The 70-year-old Johnson says it'll be hard to notice his facial growth because it's gray and doesn't grow fast.

Said Johnson: "Maybe I can change the luck."
