Redskins' Final Stretch Could Determine Shanahan's Fate

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- It's time to stop trying to figure out how many wins the Washington Redskins might need to make the playoffs. The next guessing game target: how many wins Mike Shanahan needs to keep his job.

The Redskins are 3-7, on pace to finish last in the NFC East for the third time in Shanahan's four seasons in Washington. The coach has one year remaining on a five-year, $35 million contract, leaving owner Dan Snyder with a potentially tough call to make depending on how the rest of the season plays out.

Shanahan's regular season record is 24-34. He said Monday that direction of the franchise remains positive and will improve as the team gets more salary cap space next year.
