Riverheads Shuts Out William Campbell For First Ever Baseball State Title


Riverheads won its first-ever state baseball title Sunday with a 5-0 victory over William Campbell at the Virginia High School League’s 2013 Spring Jubilee.

Kyle Bishop threw a complete-game, four-hit shutout to lead the Gladiators to their first state crown. Both starting pitchers went the distance. William Campbell’s Zach Sligh gave up just four hits as well, but two fielding errors led to a pair of unearned runs for Riverheads that proved costly for the Generals.

Riverheads took a 2-0 lead in the third and added three important insurance runs in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

Kyle Wilson drove in a pair of runs for the Gladiators with a both a sac fly and a sac bunt. Cody Swisher finished 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Bishop and CJ Chrisman accounted for the other two base hits for Riverheads.

William Campbell’s Brandon West had the game’s only extra-base hit, a double. Sligh, Tyler Elder, and Mitch Mason tallied the only other base hits for the Generals.
