Spotswood Girls Win State Title

The Spotswood girls never trailed en route to a 66-51 win over Brunswick in the Group AA Division 3 Girls State Championship Saturday at the Siegel Center in Richmond.

The Blazers finish the season 29-1 with their first state championship since 2005.

Bailey Williams led the Blazers with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Tayler Dodson chipped in 14 points and a game high 15 rebounds in the win. Elizabeth Dofflemeyer added 14 points on 5-7 shooting from the floor.

Brunswick was led in scoring by Desiray Bennett with 22 points. Juanita Eshelman was the only other Bulldog in double figures with 15 points.

Spotswood saw their lead dip to as little as 4 points in the third quarter, but closed out the game on a 20-9 run over the final 9:55.

This is the second state title in Spotswood girls basketball history.
