RICHMOND, Va. (WHSV) -- The Spotswood Trailblazers defeated the Broadway Gobblers 56-49, to win their second-straight AAA Girls' basketball state title.

Elizabeth Dofflemyer led the way for the Blazers with 19 points, and senior Tayler Dodson finished the game with 17 points and ten rebounds despite a fourth quarter ankle injury.

Dodson was injured with 6:25 to play and Spotswood up by one. She re-entered the game with 4:30 to play with the game tied at 39. Dodson immediately scored a bucket that put the Blazers ahead for good.

"It was great. You don't want to go out any other way," Dodson said. "I mean winning it just makes it that much better, and when Elizabeth had the ball out of bounds with four seconds left I was like throw me the ball. You want it in your hands when that horn goes off and there is nothing better than going out like that."

Coach Chris Dodson was proud of his team for not getting rattled in a game that was tied in the 4th quarter.

"You know attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference in success or failure," said Dodson. "I thought we kept our composure great today when we were down. I think it's a sign of maturity with this group is that we did stay calm throughout. We didn't let things frustrate us. We just kept playing the game."

Spotswood finishes the season with just one loss, and has now beaten Broadway five times this season.

"They are a top-notch team, obviously, said Broadway coach Bobby Mongold." Very well prepared, and they execute their stuff very well. Spotswood had to win the game. We didn't give it to them."

"I mean, it's sad, said Broadway senior guard Jessica Bergan. "I wish I could go back, maybe just five more minutes added on to the game, but, I mean, Broadway will play them again in the future, and we set a trend that we can do this."

Senior Brianna Zook led the way for Broadway with 17 points and eight rebounds in her final game.
