Mayzie Lewis netted two goals, including the game-winner, as Stuarts Draft edged James River, 3-2, Saturday evening at Salem High School as part of the 2013 VHSL Spring Jubilee.

Emily Hoy opened the scoring off a corner kick to put the Cougars on top, 1-0, in the 21st minute. Hoy’s tally was the difference at halftime.

Valentina Donnini found the back of the net for the Knights in the 46th minute off a cross by Hyla Meredith to square the match at 1-1. Alexandra Wolfe struck in the 56th minute to give James River a 2-1 advantage.

In the 67th minute, Lewis tallied the equalizer behind a blast from 18 yards out. The senior forward completed the comeback in the 76th minute off a shot from eight yards away to vault Stuarts Draft into the state title tilt.

Awaiting the Cougars in Sunday’s championship match is five-time defending champion George Mason. The Mustangs defeated Stuarts Draft, 2-0, in the Region B title game over one week ago. The two sides kick-off at noon at Radford University’s field hockey field.
