Mickey Matthews says it's possible Drew Dudzik and Justin Thorpe could split time at quarterback through the entire upcoming season.
Matthews, the head football coach at James Madison addressed his quarterback competition Tuesday as a guest on WHSV Sports Xtra.
"It's not out of the question that we play both guys all year," says Matthews.
Matthews had already said last week that the two would split time in JMU's season opener at Maryland September 12.
Dudzik, a redshirt junior, has spent the last two seasons backing up Rodney Landers. Thorpe is coming off a redshirt year last season as a true freshman.
"I think it's really important that you show both guys that you're fair," says Matthews. "Give them an opportunity under the lights, to move the team, score points."
"I said before camp started that if someone actually took off in camp, and it was obvious he was the best player, we would go with the guy," adds Matthews. "But it's obvious that it's just as close now as during spring training."
