A soggy field has forced the James Madison football team to postpone its first spring practice.
The Dukes were supposed to open spring ball Tuesday afternoon. But coach Mickey Matthews said Monday that that's no longer the plan.
The team's first practice will now be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the practice field.
The Dukes are unable to practice on the artificial surface at Bridgeforth Stadium this spring because of the ongoing expansion project. The program has also canceled its annual spring game because of the expansion.
Matthews said the Dukes will practice on campus Wednesday through Friday, then travel to VMI for practice Saturday.
