Birdsong Wins Appeal Allowing More Transfer Options

A James Madison University panel overturned a decision by Dukes' football coach Everett Withers that banned Michael Birdsong from transferring to four non-conference schools.

The former JMU quarterback tweeted his reaction shortly after the verdict was made.

Previously, Birdsong had asked to be released to Appalachian State, Charlotte, Liberty or Old Dominion but Withers banned him from transferring to those schools. The Richmond-native did accept a ban to transfer to any CAA programs.

The panel met with Birdsong on Tuesday but did not make a decision until the following afternoon.

The ruling will allow Birdsong to transfer to any football program except CAA schools and Charlotte, who is on the Dukes' schedule next season.

Birdsong has yet to make a decision on what school he will transfer to.
