RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Ron Curry scored 20 points and Andrey Semenov scored all eight of his points in the second half Saturday, leading James Madison to a 55-49 victory against Hampton in the opening game of a Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic doubleheader at the Richmond Coliseum.

The Dukes (4-9), losers in seven of their previous eight games, finally took command in a sloppy, back-and-forth matinee with a 9-3 run after the Pirates had pulled within 41-39 with 8:25 remaining.

Brian Darden scored 14 points to lead Hampton (5-7), which got to within 52-49 on consecutive baskets by Emmanuel Okoroba and Du'Vaughn Maxwell, the latter with 1:05 to play, but Curry made a tough basket in traffic for the Dukes with about 33 seconds remaining and the Pirates' threat was finished.

Ke'Ron Brown added 12 points and eight rebounds and Maxwell scored 10 for the Pirates. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
