Women's Basketball Rallies For 50-40 Win At W&M

James Madison outscored William and Mary 22-2 in the final 10:30 to pull out a 50-40 win in Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball Sunday afternoon at William and Mary Hall.

The Dukes, who held an opponent under 50 points for the sixth time this season, improved to 14-4 overall and 5-2 in league play. JMU won for the seventh time in its last eight games.

W&M dropped to 8-10 overall and 1-6 in the CAA with its fifth consecutive loss.

After scoring a season-low 16 first-half points, the Dukes trailed 26-16 at intermission. Still down by 10, 38-28 with 10:42 to play, JMU scored 20 unanswered points and led 48-38 with 49.3 seconds left.

Dukes' junior guard Tarik Hislop (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) scored 13 of those 20 points, including 13 of JMU's 16 points between 8:56 and 49.3 seconds.

Hislop finished with a game-high 17 points and was joined in double-figure scoring by junior forward Nikki Newman (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby), who tied her career high with 10 points and tied for game rebounding honors with nine. Freshman forward Toia Giggetts (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) contributed eight points and also had nine rebounds, and redshirt senior forward Lauren Whitehurst (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) finished with nine rebounds.

William and Mary was led by Jaclyn McKenna with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds and Emily Correal with 10 points.
