Luray High School's Braden Cook is a three sport standout athlete. He's quarterback on the football field, a guard on the basketball court and a leader on the baseball diamond.
He's ahead of the pack in the classroom, too, with a 4.2 GPA.
His favorite thing is just being a part of the team.
“I like being on the court with my friends. I love competing. We had a run for the state last year and I wanted to do that again,” said Braden.
His basketball coach says he's really developed as a player.
“Basketball is something, I think he found himself sort of liking, and getting a lot better at. It's been fun just to watch him develop as a player, here the last couple years,” said Braden's coach Jim Sanders.
He excels just as much in the classroom.
“When I was younger, I always wanted to make good grades. Every time I always got a bad grade, I hated it, and it just keep going that I had to get good grades. I always wanted to make my parents proud,” said Braden.
“I think part of Braden's positivity is his parental support. He's got a great mom and dad, they show up at everything. Very supportive of his teachers as well, so he's just a well rounded, very pleasant kid,” said his teacher Jodi Baldwin.
Braden hopes to keep rounding the bases next year and join his brother on the base paths.
“I want to try to go to King College to play baseball with my brother. I want to try and study Sports Medicine and become a physical trainer or coach,” said Braden.
His success on the field and in the classroom is why Braden Cook is WHSV's Student Athlete of the Week.
