Claire Glick is quick in the pool and sharp in the classroom.
The Harrisonburg High School athlete has trained diligently over the past four years to become faster in the pool, a goal which she's achieved with her speed.
“I love how it's both an individual sport and a team sport. With the Individual part of it, you get to, it's all you. You get to train and focus on yourself, and make goals for yourself,” said Claire.
She went to the state tournament as a Freshman and wants to return this year.
“So, for two years we worked at getting to that position, which is a matter of shaving hundredths of a second off her time,” said her coach Richard Morrell.
She has set five school records and is the fastest free-styler in Harrisonburg High School history.
The fastest free-styler is a fierce competitor in the pool, and in the classroom.
For Claire, its all about making the good grades to prepare for college and life after school.
“I really wanted to prepare myself for college, and really after, going into med school and everything. Just study hard, and hope it will get me there, and make my future a lot better,” said Claire.
Her teacher sees her dedication.
“She always wants to know why something is true, not just how its done, and her curiosity was contagious in the class,” said her teacher Tricia Cummings.
She's staying in Virginia for the future.
“I'm going to the College of William and Mary. I'll be double majoring in Bio and Latin American Studies. After med school, I plan on becoming a doctor,” said Claire.
Her dedication in the pool and in the classroom is why Claire Glick is WHSV's Student Athlete of the Week.
