Jenny Kelly does a little bit of everything for Luray High School.

She is an All-District athlete in softball, basketball and her favorite sport, volleyball.

“You get to take your frustrations out and it's not a contact sport, it's more of a teamwork effort and without someone to set it up or bump it, you're not going to get the play off,” said Jenny.

Her coach says you couldn't ask for a better athlete.

“She is the ideal athlete. Period. Her work ethic, determination, attitude, it's what you want all your athletes to follow,” said Jenny's volleyball coach Julie Rothgeb.

She is just as successful in the classroom.

“You have a lot to do, you have sports, you have work, you have everything but most of the time it's not too bad. I just don't want to fail at anything, I just want to try my best if you do your best, at least you know yourself, that you can't do it better,” said Jenny.

Jenny has a whopping 4.19 GPA and ranked third in her class. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

“I think a lot of it is just that "stick-to-it-ness" the ability to stay on track and not give up. She's definitely a fighter, willing to do whatever it takes to get things done and figure things out. She never gives up,” said her Calculus teacher Jim Sanders.

As for her future, she wants to be a Hokie.

“I want to go to Virginia Tech and major in a science field, to be a physical therapist because I dislocated my ankle and had to work with a physical therapist and thought it would be interesting,” said Jenny.

Jenny's focus, talent and success on the playing field and in the classroom is why she is WHSV's Student Athlete of the Week. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
