For Broadway High School, the player that wears #7 isn't always the biggest or fastest guy on the field.
But Josh Eberly may be the hardest working Gobbler of them all.
“It's the way I was raised. Try my hardest, do my best all the time. I don't know, I just want to be the best out there,” said Josh.
“He's the type of player, that makes everyone better, and as a coach, that's something you look for in a student athlete, someone who's going to rise up and raise the level of the competition of the play around him,” said Broadway High School Head Coach Brad Lutz.
“Some kids are really good athletically, some are really good academically. Josh is just good at both. We've been working on some projectile motion equations lately and some of them get pretty tough when you throw in quadratic equations and all that kind of stuff like that, brainy things, and Josh just tackles it, no problem,” said Honors Physics Teacher Dan Beckstrom.
There haven't been many problems he can't handle in the classroom.
Josh has a 3.8 GPA and he is ranked 28th in his class.
He says a little bit of sibling rivalry gives him the extra boost.
“I'm always in competition with my brother. Most of our classes are together and I always want to get better grades than he does.”
As for the future, working with animals is his dream.
“I'm not sure what I really want to do when I get past high school, but I want to be a veterinarian, probably go somewhere for an animal culture science degree and then go to vet school somewhere.”
And when you run as hard as Josh does, you can reach about any goal.
That's why Josh Eberly is WHSV's Student Athlete of the Week for Oct. 13.
