Page County High School's Tanner Dofflemyer is one of the best athletes in his school history. He's been the Shenandoah District player of the year on the court, but his collegiate future is on a Division 1 baseball field. All that work and he still finds the time to make top notch grades.

Dofflemyer is always putting in the time.

"I'm always working to get better in my spare time, especially after practice or sometimes before school and my parents have always told me since to work harder than the other and to achieve your goals."

"He doesn't have to prove who he is or what he does. He just goes out and does it and he doesn't like a lot of the accolades and the things that come that way. That's the icing on the cake for him," said Coach Mike Purdham, Tanner's basketball coach.

Tanner is one of the most decorated athletes in Page County High School history. He's the school's all-time leading scorer in basketball and a state champion in baseball, all while maintaining a 3.7 GPA.

"Once you get home, it's get to your books and get your supper in and ever since I was young, my parents have always emphasized that school work comes before the sports," said Tanner.

"He's just a good student, a good all-around person. He'll be a good employee or boss or whatever he decides to be. I'd want him on my team and I want him in my classroom. We'll put it that way," said Sheila McKay, Tanner's computer information teacher.

"I think we've been blessed to have an individual like Tanner walking the halls here at Page County High School and donning a jersey for our athletic programs," said Coach Purdham.

Even though his time wearing panther blue is coming to a close soon, next year Tanner is heading down the road to don a different jersey at Division 1 Virginia Military Institute.

"Next year I plan to attend VMI to play baseball and major in biology," said Tanner.
